The Dominican Republic is a country located on the island of Hispaniola in the Caribbean region; it occupies five eights of the island that it shares with Haiti. The Dominican Republic is the most visited island in the Caribbean attracting 140.000 plus visitors a year. It is home to the Caribbean’s tallest mountain peak and the largest lake, and year-round golf courses are a huge attraction with many. The coastline defines the island with white sand beaches, rocky cliffs, and serene mangroves, many of the bays and coves were a hiding ground for pirates and are a now homes for thousands of humpback whales.
Places of interest include the dramatic mountaintop of Montana Redonda with jaw dropping views and you can even paraglide right off it! The 3 Eyes National Park a beautiful and natural series of caves, Ocean World Adventure Park where you can interact with marine life and walk through rain forests, and 27 Charcos where you get to slide down waterfalls with a gorgeous back drop.
Visit the Centro Leon modern museum with a great history of Dominican art, and Sendero Del Cacao will have you feeling like you have entered Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory; visit the gift shop and purchase some delicious samples of their work.
