“I was born at Bayfront Hospital in St. Petersburg, and that’s where the adventure begins,” says Antonio Bates. Growing up among quiet streets and salty seas, Antonio spent his childhood glued to Jacques Cousteau’s underwater expeditions and Mutual of Omaha’s Wild Kingdom. He dreamed of becoming a marine biologist, and he excelled at the subject so much in high school that his teacher graded the rest of the class on a curve! (He also wanted to be a ninja, thanks to a love of Kung Fu and karate, but more on that later.) Summers were spent outside until the sun went down, turning Booker Creek into his own mini safari as he searched for hidden treasure along its banks. That same curious, explorer’s spirit is exactly what Antonio brings to every home search today.

About 10 years ago, Antonio moved to Boynton Beach and fell in love at first sight, starting with the sky. “The vibe and the energy were different from where I grew up, and the homes were beautiful. For a moment, I thought just about everybody drove a Mercedes-Benz or a BMW!” he jokes. He first settled right off Boynton Beach Boulevard near the Turnpike, then moved to Renaissance Commons, where he enjoyed one of the best views of the city. Between his years exploring Boynton Beach’s neighborhoods and canals and his regular trips through West Palm Beach, Delray Beach, and Boca Raton, Antonio knows the Southern Palm Beaches like the back of his hand. Antonio found Real Estate thanks to a surprise phone call. Years ago, a friend who had quietly become a Realtor called him out of the blue, and when Antonio heard what his friend was accomplishing, a seed was planted. Once Antonio earned his own license, he discovered the real reward. “Helping someone lease an apartment or sell a home has been one of the best things I’ve ever done,” he says. Antonio brings years of telesales experience with him, from helping homeowners take control of their energy costs to guiding small businesses as an authorized AT&T dealer. At one company, he started at the bottom of the office and rose to become one of its top sellers! “Rejection is not a problem, and follow-up is where it all happens,” he explains. Antonio’s work ethic started at the breakfast table. Every morning, his mom, a CNA, helped him get ready for school while the morning news played. She’d sip her coffee, and when he asked for some, she’d pour him a little with an ice cube to cool it down. Then she’d head off to work double shifts to provide for Antonio and his sisters. She taught him to speak up for himself and always stand for what’s right, and today Antonio sets that same example for his son, his biggest inspiration, who earned high honor roll, a stack of certificates, and three trophies this year. Antonio also believes in random acts of kindness, whether that means helping someone in need or giving a stranger’s car a jump start. Honest, kind, and trustworthy, he is the calm, steady listener his friends turn to when life gets stressful, and he brings that same reassuring presence to every transaction.
