Boynton Beach is a large city located between Lake Worth and Delray Beach in Palm Beach County. Named for a former American Civil War major named Nathan Boynton who was so struck by the natural beauty of the area along with the year-round sunshine, Boynton build the famous Boynton hotel and spent winters here with his family. The area developed a rich farming heritage as fruits and vegetables thrived in the tropical climate.
Today, Boynton Beach Oceanfront Park is located just north of the site of the original Boynton hotel, and is popular with residents and visitors alike. The park was voted the best family beach in Palm Beach County in 2001 by The Palm Beach Post. The park is open 365 days a year from sunrise until 9pm. There are designated surfing and skim board areas, and lifeguards are on duty every day from 9am-5pm. You’ll also find picnic areas, and a playground with facilities for all age ranges. There’s also a fitness center for adults. This 12-acre beach is just a 20-minute walk or 7-minute bike ride from Downtown Boynton Beach.
Boynton Beach is also known as ‘The Gateway to the Gulfstream’ and is the third largest municipality in Palm Beach County, with an estimated population of 70,000 people. Residents enjoy the tropical lifestyle you would expect in a beachfront Florida city, with hundreds of restaurants and waterfront dining options, plentiful shopping options including outdoor shopping centers and a mall, lots of year-round entertainment options, and of course the beach and parks.
Throughout the city you’ll find 29 parks, a city swimming pool and golf course, marina, 8 recreation centers, and over 250 acres of beach, natural conservation land, and parks – 5 of which are located on the Intracoastal Waterway. The marina is one of only two working full-service marinas in Palm Beach County. Located ½ mile south of the Boynton Inlet, here you can find private charters, deep-sea fishing, scuba-diving, as well as jet-ski and boat rentals. There are also a number of waterfront restaurants where you can enjoy watching the boats while you dine al-fresco. The Links Golf Course offers two courses to suit players of every skill-level an 18-hole championship course and a 9-hole family course. The Arthur R. Marshall Loxahatchee Wildlife Refuge is also not to be missed – here you can spot wildlife while you paddle through sawgrass marsh or take a ranger-led hiking tour through the stunning natural area. The Mangrove Park is another wildlife park which features a suspended walkway through the park and over water.
The city of Boynton Beach has excellent transport links with direct access to the Turnpike, 3 I-95 exits, and a Tri-Rail Station. It is close to 3 major seaports and 3 major international airports. There are wonderful public and private A-rated schools throughout the area.
