Barbra Streisand’s Oceanside Oasis

Everyone’s favorite “Funny Girl”, Barbra Streisand lives in an oasis right by the sea. Streisand and husband, Josh Brolin, have made 6838 Zumirez Drive in Malibu their home since July 2009 when they bought the property for $16,500,000. The 8-bedroom, 11-bathroom, 10,485-square-foot estate is surrounded by water on three sides of the property, including the Pacific Ocean, a swimming pool, a lap pool, and a man-made pond with water lilies and a water mill.

The back of the home is painted white and faces the ocean, while the front actually resembles a large red barn. Streisand raises chickens on her property which she says lay green eggs. Her property also features extensive gardens with 100 rose bushes, including a rose named after her, as well as zinnias, dahlias, and snapdragons.

The walls of her two-story home are decorated with lots of artwork, including many early American portraits from the 1900s. One of Streisand’s favorites is a portrait of President George Washington. The other paintings feature women from the 1900s.

The home features a gym with a view of the ocean, but Streisand instead put a couch in the gym so she can read and enjoy the breathtaking view of the California coastline. A silo in the house features an elegant spiral staircase which Streisand said reminds her of a nautilus shell.

The singer/actress said she turned the basement of her home into a “street of shops”, including a doll shop with antique dolls and automatons, which are dolls that move. She also has an antique shop with a collection of antique clothing and some dresses and costumes on display which she wore in her films. Barbra calls one of the rooms her “gift shop”, where she keeps the many gifts she buys for friends and family.

The downstairs also has a root cellar/kitchen where she arranges all of the flowers from her garden and washes and stores the many things she grows on her property, including avocados and lemons.

Streisand said she decorated different wings of her home in different styles and colors. She likes her four-poster canopy bed and even puts stairs next to the bed for her little white dog, a Coton de Tulear named Samantha.

Streisand has been in the news lately since she was selected to receive the American Society of Cinematographers 2015 Board of Governors Award, which is presented to an individual who has made extraordinary achievements in advancing the art of filmmaking.
