Nextdoor.com Can Connect You With Your Garden Lakes Community

As a fellow homeowner and resident of Garden Lakes, I have been introducing our community to a fun way of interacting and sharing ideas with each other through a social media service called Nextdoor.com. We currently have 25% of the community on the site. Neighbors are helping share recommendations about local services and businesses such as babysitters, plumbers, and dentists. The app has helped neighbors find lost dogs and cats. Research has shown that one of the best ways to prevent crime is to get to know your neighbors. When neighbors know each other, they look out for one another. Nextdoor.com makes it easy to meet your neighbors, create watch groups, report suspicious activity, and prevent crime before it happens.

To sign up, just visit Nextdoor.com, create an account, and put in your address. Once your information is verified, you will be added to the Garden Lakes community on the site. There is no money involved and anyone can invite their neighbors to join, either by email, postcards (which Nextdoor.com sends out for free), and/or by word of mouth.

I find this a great way to stay informed, to get connected, and to get to know your fellow neighbors!
