Eduardo’s Spotlight on Ann Norton Sculpture Gardens

Ann Norton Sculpture Gardens

El Cid is an area known for its historic houses and its rich cultural surroundings. This remarkable enclave is surrounded by many museums, concert halls, art galleries and a stones throw away from the shopping streets of Palm Beach.

Today we focus the beautiful Artistic Ann Norton Sculpture Gardens. The beautiful house and gardens were built in the 1920s and later became the residence of Ralph Norton. Norton married Ann Weaver after the passing of his first wife. Ann was a sculpture instructor at the Norton Gallery and School of Art. Ann began her most prolific work to date, as the advantages of being Ralph’s wife provided the necessary funds and time to dedicate to her work. After and because of Ralph’s death, Ann began her “life’s work” as we know it, the nine monumental sculptures.

The museum recently hosted ‘Rising’ by Sophie Ryder, a world-renown British Sculpture who’s work has been inspired by Picasso, Goya and Henry Moore. Ryder famously developed the Lady Hare as a counterpart to Ancient Greek mythology’s Minotaur (often used by Picasso). The sculptures conflate the readymade and the monumental, reflecting and affirming views and their environments.

Another exhibition currently on display at the museum is The Lost Bird Project by Todd McGrain. It focuses on extinct birds of the Americas, and it is dramatically presented in the main lawn of the Gardens.
