Palm Beach County is providing up to $100,000 to assist income-eligible applicants who are first-time homebuyers.
The county housing and economic director, Jonathan Brown, understands the challenge some first-time home buyers may face. First-time homebuyers are defined as someone who has not had their name on a title in the last three years or a displaced domestic violence victim.
Brown said he is excited about the opportunity the county has for those who want to own their first home in Palm Beach County.
“On Dec. 27, we’ll be opening up our purchase assistance or our first-time home buyers’ program,” Brown said.
The founder and owner of Echo Fine Properties, Jeff Lichtenstein, said the county’s program is terrific because it helps people stay in the county they want to live in.
“It’s all good, it’s basically a lot of assistance, and it especially helps with moderate- and low-income housing,” Lichtenstein said. “It’s money to assist them in buying and securing a loan.”
The online application portal will open on Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2023, at 8 a.m. and close on Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2024, at 11:59 p.m. (or until 100 applications have been submitted.)
Once 100 applications have been received, the portal will close.
Applications must be submitted online, and will be processed on a first submitted, first qualified, first served basis, subject to funding availability.
Eligible applicants can apply by visiting the county website.
Additional program information and required documents needed are also located on the website.
Brown said the program is based on the number of people in your home as well as the maximum income for the home.
“For instance, if you’re a household of four, your maximum income could be up to $136,000,” Brown said. “And you can qualify for first home buyer assistance.”
Applicants are required to register to attend a mandatory virtual orientation before submitting an online application.
